Beginning of consolidation?

In todays News Journal we see that a district in Sussex county, Laurel, is in financial trouble because our state government has not only cut funding, but saddled the district with 10% transportation costs. In a fellow bloggers page,Children & Educators First, the discussions touched upon are these the first steps towards consolidation in the local school districts. In the News Journal article there was actual comments saying that maybe Laurel should be consolidated with its neighbor, Seaford. Now I have been accused of bring a cynic sometimes, and reading into things but a thought came to me as I read these discussions.
Now, I don’t fault the local teachers associations for doing their best for their teachers, and I can honestly say they deserve to be well treated for the hard work they do. However, let me put a thought out there for comment and discussion about what I see going on in the golden towers of Dover. Many continue to question why the DSEA is supporting Mr. Markell when he continues to cut education, and place more hardship on the classroom. The governor is pushing for consolidating school districts in the name of saving funds, and this 10% transportation attack is pushing this on poorer districts as we speak. The rheteric has consolidation eliminating administration positions to save “six-figure salaries”, and centralizing other services to eliminate other positions in the district offices. Saving these funds will mean more funding available to level the teaching salaries of the consolidated districts since the “playing field” has to be made level for all teachers doing the same work. So why would you not support consolidation and our governor pushing it, and when its all said and done you have a person in place to help with determining how accountability will look in the future.
Now I may be completely wrong in my thoughts which I doubt, but Public Education in Delaware is being undermined at the local, state, and federal level everyday with the next generation suffering for it!
