In the News Journal Delaware’s Presidential Candidate Sen. Biden is offering tax incentives “for families making up to $166,000 per year” that would help offset the cost of tuitions for low and middle class families. These incentives “would cost an estimated $59 billion over five years, which Biden’s campaign said would be paid for in part by better enforcement of tax laws”. The plan would cover “the $2,070 annual tuition at Delaware Technical & Community College, more than half of Delaware State University’s $5,366 annual tuition, and almost half of the University of Delaware’s $6,980 annual tuition”. Sounds like another program that our own Governor started, SEED, and it looks good at first glance. However, because of a lack of foresight we now have Delaware Technical College asking for funding for capital expansion! Now we are looking at another Federal Program which will sound good, but will be UNFUNDED on the other end just like NCLB! I don’t deny anyone the right to further their education, but lets not start something that can’t be sustained.
