Public School Security vs. Free Education

Been a little busy as of late, but last night something tweaked me that I had to write about! Recently, all of us have listened to the news of the Amish children and other incidents of violence in the schools today. Well last night our board met with the administration and others who deal with discipline in the schools in Milford. What set me off the most is to find out that our children in the Public schools are being exposed to risks that the DOE either condones or pushes on the districts! The states alternative schools for placement of children with social issues are so full that the districts are being made to take back students who have created problems in the schools. Not only is this true, but many of this students entering our districts through these placements are not accompanied with thier complete records when they register. The history for many of these may be an important bit of information to have, and this is being left out. It might be good information to know if a student has social issues that certain situations might not be good for them or those around them. Bottom line is that our state DOE and by way of legislation may need to look at funding new alternatives, or at the least giving districts the resources to deal with these students.
Schools in Delaware are becoming crowded enough with influx from growth in the state, but putting students back in a school where they have had issues is like lighting a fuse on a flammable situation.
