Missing Life Skills

On Sunday 4/9, I had the opportunity to hear Ken Kay, Partnership for 21st Century Skills, speak at the NSBA conference in Chicago.I have included on the blog a link to his web site where you can read about the key elements our graduates need to survive in the world today. I think the main thing I walked away with was that he agreed that not every child will go to college, but they all need the similar skills for whatever career they follow after high school. Besides the "core subjects" like math, English, and social studies, these children need to have problem solving skills, creative skills, some collaborative skills, and a good understanding of technology. They also need "Life Skills" such as leadership, ethics, personal productivity, and self direction.

Our graduates can test out of standardize test, but can't fill out a job application, or even balance a check book! What type of citizens will be voting for our future leadership for this Country?
